leslie knope in love
so, uh, it appears Facing New York is back in action? seriously i'm so excited right now i'm crying a little. and i think the only reason the tears stopped building up before it became full-fledged is because my brain got all plan-y and it made the emotions slow down. wow.

the earlier show is in socal, so i think i'm gonna go to both. once i calm down a bit i'll try to put this in email form but for now: town & ariel, would you be interested in/available for a road trip? i have a bit of money at the moment, so if we could take someone's car i could pay for gas (mine would almost definitely not make it); or if flying was an option i could pay for the rental car and gas for that. and a hotel or something. omg i'm freaking out a little. hahaha. damn.

this makes me nostalgic for the days of everyone from 'the scene' being on lj and always talking about shows together. :\

okay i need an fny icon again. stat. done. :D

Uhhh. This is weird but I'm actually already going to be in SoCal on the 14th, at a family thing in South Pasadena. So I can't help you get to or from, but if you could come get me, I'm in?
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 6:51 am (UTC)
SWEET. then unless ariel wants to drive down with me i will totally fly to you (or thereabouts). only lame thing is, i just looked at tickets for the shows and they're not headlining, they're just opening for Dredg. so hopefully those guys rock? i've never heard their music that i remember, though i do know the name. whatevs totally worth it.

eeeeeeeee fnyyyyyyyyy :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 6:52 am (UTC)
oh gross. I think I saw Dredg at like my second show ever and they were shitty metal. I don't think it's worth it to fly down for that.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 6:57 am (UTC)
well the gamh guy says this:

With a body built on growling, hard-hitting, straight-up rock, and incorporating elements of pop, operatic vocals, haunting piano accompanyment, celtic lilts, tibetan bowls, and scratchy voice-over samples, Dredg at times embodies the energy of punkrock and still posesses the powerful, graceful makings of a movie score. Only The Mars Volta, it seems, can compare in terms of the abandon with which these men create. This band has such a unique soul and style that one can't honestly put walls up around them. And perhaps that is a good thing.

i don't know The Mars Volta's music either (though i seem to remember a lot of Matches fans being super into them), but i'm thinking maybe this is not the same band you didn't dig. i dunno. i'm gonna check them out but i'm still obsessing over show tickets so i haven't gotten to that step yet. :P

IDK, it was like 10 years ago, I could be thinking of someone else for the shitty metal. But I definitely remember shittiness of some kind.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:25 am (UTC)
hahaha. well, if they suck at least that frees us up to interrogate fny on their future happenings or something. which hopefully exist.

i am having so many show flashbacks with like the three of us and em and lyzi and my blue car and ahhh. i miss it. eh.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:30 am (UTC)
interrogate fny?! oh dear god, count me out

for reals let's just wait for the gamh.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:32 am (UTC)
well i was mostly kidding. but i will probably ask them about general plans. nicely. :)

i'm listening to dredg right now and they're not particularly metal-y but they're not awesome either. i'm still on the first song though..
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 8:20 am (UTC)
oh wait, do you meant 'count me out' of the whole show? i was thinking of the interrogating. hmm. well i'm going either way, but of course your attendance is up to you.

i've had this fantasy for the past couple of months, see. since i have mostly been buying for myself the things i really want as they come up (music, dvds), there isn't much on my wish list at the moment. i determined that the thing i want most is an fny show, so i planned this whole thing (in my head) where my family somehow organizes a facing new york show around my birthday (originally the plan was *on* my birthday, but she & him is that night) except i didn't want it to actually be about/for me since it's really about the band, so that part would be kept secret. and any money my family members would've spent on gifts would go to the show/band instead, along with a contribution from me if necessary. so really these two shows are that ridiculous fantasy coming true, through no involvement [on behalf] of me. which basically means the socal show will be a birthday present to myself, a little early. and now you probably think i'm crazy, but that's not really news anyway. so. the end.

Well, I will be in Pasadena regardless. So if you go and it works out logistically for me it sounds fun -- but count me out of the interrogating for sure.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 9:46 am (UTC)
i can definitely wait and do the interrogating in sf, if at all.

final verdict on dredg's music: thumbs slightly down. ah well.

bed time! goodnight!

soo i got a flight: sfo to lax arriving at 4:25pm friday, and back home departing 3:18pm saturday. i don't know your family plans/obligation but aside from actually being at the show while it's happening i am completely flexible. i can take you back to your peeps right after or you can crash at a hotel/whatever with me for the night. we can work it out later (dan next week! yay!) but i thought i'd fill you in. hurrah!
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:26 am (UTC)
I totally remember shittiness as well. Although it's possible they have a completely different sound now.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:28 am (UTC)
apparently they are from this area so it might be them after all. i am about to listen to them right now.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:31 am (UTC)
I know I have been at shows they played before for sure... but obviously they didn't leave a strong impression
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:37 am (UTC)
since i didn't even remember having heard/seen them before, i would have to agree with you. heh.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:25 am (UTC)
Sadly between school and work I totally can't roadtrip :( I super wish I could though.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:27 am (UTC)
well, we can go to the sf show the next week! and i am excited that it's at gamh and not slims because i've never liked slims as much. wee!
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:30 am (UTC)
I was so excited last week when I looked and there was actually a show in the near future in norcal (not one that just happened or only far away... which is usually what happens when I remember to check in)

Totally. So much less hipsters at GAMH.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:36 am (UTC)
i almost never login to myspace these days, but since fny has kind of been using theirs i have checked it every several days or so, and tonight i was shocked to actually see shows. i wonder why they always do socal first and then up here, when they're from here? maybe they want to be home at the end of everything. i dunno.

yeah, and the place itself is so beautiful, whereas slim's is just a big cold square and the stage is too high. gamh is one of my favorite venues. <3
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:38 am (UTC)
It does seem to be the pattern for some reason. As long as I get to see them it is all good though.

Also don't forget the stupid pole in the middle of the stage at Slims.
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 @ 7:41 am (UTC)
ugh, the stupid pole! i had forgotten! grr that thing is so annoying and in the way. what poor planning. :\
Sunday, 18 April 2010 @ 7:51 pm (UTC)
Hipster planning.
Monday, 19 April 2010 @ 1:39 am (UTC)
HAHAHA. definitely.
